The Spanish government official has lauded the former Los Blancos player as one of the country’s best sportsmen of all time.
Spain’s Minister for Education, Culture and Sport, Jose Ignacio Wert, has voiced his appreciation for the Al Sadd forward, Raul, claiming that the attacker continues to maintain his reputation as one of the greatest footballers of all time.
Wert stressed that Raul’s ability to perform at his best sets him apart from many footballers of his age.
The Sport minister stated his disappointment at seeing the former Real Madrid player miss out on the Spanish national squad for the Euro 2012.
Given his age and the competition he faced from other Spanish forwards, the veteran footballer was dropped out of the La Roja roster for the European Championship in the summer by the Spanish national coach, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Vicente-c36001 del Bosque.
Although Raul’s expulsion from the national squad was not received by surprise, Jose Wert has emphasized the impact the striker has made on Spanish football.
Clearly, the Minister for Sport appears to be a fan of the man who has scored the highest amount of goals in the history of Real Madrid, and revealed that he had the chance to meet the player while he was staying at a hotel in Bilbao.
The Minister then stated that he watched Raul play against Athletic Bilbao while representing German outfit, Schalke 04, insisting that it is still a joy to watch the man play.
While talking to reporters, the 62-year-old was quoted as saying:
"I miss [seeing] http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Raul-c30652 at the Euros [but] respect the decision of Del Bosque, whose work is very complicated. But Raul is a professional like few others, he has had a great season.”
“I was fortunate to visit him at the hotel in Bilbao and then watch him play in San Mames against Athletic [in the Europa League quarter-final], where he showed that he remains a crucial player and one of the best Spanish players."
Raul was once one of the most influential players in the Spanish La Liga and is still considered a legend at the Santiago Bernabeu.
