The Spanish Prime Minister praised La Liga Champions after their win over Real Madrid on the weekend…
Spanish Prime minister, Jose Luis Zapatero, has showered praise on the Spanish Champions following their victory over traditional rivals Real Madrid on Saturday.
Real Madrid and Barcelona locked horns at Santiago Bernabeu in this season’s first La Liga El Clasico, and Barcelona emerged winners of the highly anticipated fixture, with the final score line at 1-3.
The Catalans performed brilliantly despite the excellent form that Jose Mourinho’s men were enjoying prior to the game. Los Blancos had won all 15 of their last played matches and were immensely confident ahead of the Clasico.
Barcelona demonstrated one of the best performances this season, hence inviting the appreciation of the Spanish Prime minister himself.

While talking to EFE, Jose Luis Zapatero stated:
"Barcelona showed in last Saturday's match against Real Madrid that they are a team of legends. These are the best years in the history of Spanish football.”
"Barcelona put in an excellent display in the second half. Real Madrid are definitely a very strong team, too,” he added.
The prime minister was particularly full of praise of Barca’s midfield. He revealed that he was impressed by the way the Catalans have been playing.
"Every time you look at the way things evolve from Barcelona's midfield, you realise that they play the best football. Xavi is the absolute spine of the team, and then obviously there are [Cesc] Fabregas, [Andres] Iniesta and [Lionel] Messi,” he was quoted
as saying.
The win has taken Barcelona to the top of La Liga standings as they lead Jose Mourinho’s men in terms of goal difference. Even though the Catalans have yet again managed to impose their superiority in terms of game play over Real Madrid, Los Blancos still
have a game in hand.
