Jose Maria Olazabal has different plans for the 2012 Ryder Cup
European Team captain, Jose Maria Olazabal has made some major decisions for the upcoming Ryder Cup, planning to defend his title in a better way.
The 2012 Ryder Cup is scheduled from September 25 to 30th, at the amazing venue of the Medinah Country Club in Medinah Illinois.
Olazabal, the 46-year-old Spanish professional golf player, first announced that he would only use two of the vice captains and would not follow the trend set by Colin Montgomerie.
As in 2010, Montgomerie was the captain and he used six vice captains to assist his team. The European Team won the title and defeated the US Team.
The winning scores were 14 ½ and the US Team faced a defeat, scoring one-less, at the Celtic Manor Resort City of Newport, Wales.
"I know Davis Love will have four assistants but I am having just two," Olazabal said. "It's a lot of headaches if you have more than two. I have spoken with Davis and he said to me he will be picking his assistants about 60 days from now, about the beginning
of July. But I'm not in any rush, so we'll just wait and see".
Secondly, the Spaniard also wants to have Europe’s high ranked players in his 12-man team, before the qualifying deadline dates. He is planning to defend the title and has high expectations from the European players.
"The ideal situation for me would be to have all the top players in my 12. So for players like Padraig Harrington the ball is still in his court.” Olazabal said. "They have to show form”.
Like again in 2010, the captain, Montgomerie, picked some low-ranked players, triggering a controversy.
The team won the title but left many questions behind such as why Montgomerie did not select more competent players for his team?
Olazabal's decision of making two assistants was supported by Celtic Manor, who was the Montgomerie's assistant in 2010.
Manor believes the decision is perfect. Olazabal would only need two assistants to defend the Ryder Cup title in the current year.
All the European natives are striving to be in the field of the upcoming mega event. The qualifying stage will end in the first week of September and players have enough time to make it to the Ryder Cup.
