Jose Maria Olazabal out of the U.S. Open, is it time for the Spanish to throw in the towel?

Jose Maria Olazabal has failed to qualify for the U.S Open. The 46-year-old looked promising after last week’s play but failed miserably in this week’s round.
Olazabal, along with Montgomerie, was the strongest player last week and appeared confident about being a part of the U.S Open. Reality hit hard this week as both are out of the U.S. Open fair and square.
Olazabal turned professional in 1985. His career has been impressive with numerous wins in almost every part of the world.
He won The Masters twice in 1994 and 1999, with his best performance till date. His play at The Masters was indeed a sight. Precision, technique and intrigue, he had it all in him during the play.
The European Tour has been a blessing for the Spanish golfer. He has been victorious on the European Tour an astonishing 23 times, which is the 8th all time best record at the European Tour list of honour.
He has also won the Japan Tour twice, where the level of technique was a challenge for Olazabal.
In 2009, his dedication to the game of golf was honoured and he received the highly prestigious World Golf Hall of Fame award.
After the 2005 Mallorca Classic win, the Spanish golfer lost his touch. His form never came back to what it used to be when he was the undisputed king of the European Tour.
His fame dropped down a notch because of his absence from the pages of golf. In 2010 alone, Olazabal did not participate in a single major championship.
This was a shocker as his fans were expecting a come-back from the Spanish golfer. In 2011, he participated in two major championships and missed the cut in both of the events.
In this year, Olazabal was participating in The Masters and the U.S. Open. Sadly, he missed cut in both the championships continuing his bad form.
Olazabal has seen glory, fame and fortune in the past, yet, his focus has been residing somewhere else rather than golf. It is sad to see a golf legend falling apart rather than retiring and telling young people how to play the game.
It is indeed time for the Spanish golfer to throw in the towel.
