Jose Maria Olazabal will play the ISPS Handa Wales Open for the first time
Jose Maria Olazabal will play the ISPS Handa Wales Open for the first time in his career, planning to improve his game in Wales.
The 46-year-old Spanish professional golf player is excited to display the debut performance at the ISPS Handa Wales Open, at The Celtic Manor Resort in the City of Newport, Wales.
Olazabal is also the proud captain of the Ryder Cup’s European Team. He also wants to see closely the Europeans’ performances in the upcoming tournament, so that he can make his team stronger.
The European Team is the defending champion of the event and is planning to compete impressively again at the Medinah Country Club in September, 2012.
Olazabal is also happy for teeing up at The Celtic Manor Resort, which was the site where the European Team recorded a victory.
On the other hand, he is also looking forward to improve his game and putting. He wants to get himself ready for the upcoming mega tournaments and for the Ryder Cup as well.
“Obviously it’s great to be here,” Olazabal said. “It's a big event, great golf course, conditions are pretty good, and the golf course is playing firm and fast up to now”.
“Hopefully the weather will stay like this and you know, delighted to be here. Obviously wonderful memories from two years ago, and I’m looking forward to try and play some decent golf.”
He added, “There are certain areas that I have to improve, but some other areas I'm pretty happy with it, mainly the driving and the three wood is getting me down. But all I can do is just work at it”.
There are many other professionals who are heading to the ISPS Handa Wales Open. Hence, there will be a heightened degree of competition and grabbing a victory will not be an easy task.
This may be the right time for the Spaniard to improve his performance in Wales. He has won 23 European Tour events, since turning professional in 1985. On the other hand, he has also recorded six PGA Tour wins.
He can make his debut performance the most successful one, by saving bogeys and shooting the best scores in the four-day tournament.
