Jose Maria Olazabal wishes for Paul Casey’s health recovery
The European Ryder Cup captain, Jose Maria Olazabal, is hoping to see Paul Casey to return to action after recovering completely from the injuries that sidelined him from most of the events early in the 2012 golf season.
There was a time when he went as high as the third position in the Official World Golf Rankings three years ago.
However, the snowboarding accident caused dislocation of his shoulder that forced him to stay away from most of the events on both, the PGA and European Tour.
Recently, he returned to action and performed poorly before he announced to give a miss to the Memorial tournament, scheduled to start from May 31 to June 3, 2012.
He has played a total of five PGA Tour events so far in the 2012 season and succeeded in making the cut only once.
The last event he played was the Players Championship, in which he decided to withdraw from the event after the first nine holes on day one.
“My shoulder felt tired and tender when I made my way to the first tee,” Casey said. “I decided to give it a go as I thought I could play through it, but during the round it flared up, which is when I decided to withdraw. I am very disappointed. My game
has been coming around and I felt confident, but my body told me otherwise”.
"I feel really sorry for him. We all know how good he can play," said Olazabal, who is hoping Casey to get healthy and play for European team in the Ryder Cup. "All I am hoping is that he gets healthy again and shows form. I wish him the very best".
According to the qualification criteria, the top 10 players in the European Ryder Cup standings will automatically qualify for this year’s event after the PGA Championship in August.
Therefore, Casey has few chances to make it to the top10, as he currently ranks 27th, and needs to get back to the game to record some good finishes.
Moreover, Olazabal will only have wildcards to offer, which further tightens Casey’s chances.
