Jose Montano finishes fourth at the Boys Junior Orange Bowl International Golf Championship
Jose Montano carded a bogey-free three-under par 68, in the final round of the Boys Junior Orange Bowl International Golf Championship, to finish fourth on the leaderboard, on Sunday, December 30, 2012.
The Junior Orange Bowl International Golf Championship is known for attracting a strong line-up each year. This year too, the event has reeled in some prominent names, including the likes of Patrick Kelly, Corey Pereira, Mateusz Gradecki and Ben Follett-Smith.
A total of 61 male amateurs and 33 female amateur players participated in this year’s edition of the tournament. Kelly fired a 19-under par tournament score to win the boys division of the event.
Montano carded a two-under par overall score to finish 17 strokes behind Kelly. It may appear a poor performance, considering the fact that he finished way behind the winner.
However, it was Kelly who played brilliantly well in the tournament to post the second best score in the history of the tournament.
The second-placed Jamie Lopez-Rivarola finished 13 strokes behind Kelly, after posting a six-under par tournament score. He settled just four strokes ahead of Montano.
The first two round of the event witnessed Montano playing some brilliant shots on the course. He carded a 68 in the first round, followed by a 69 on day two.
However, he failed to keep the momentum going into the third round and failed to add a single birdie to his scorecard, while conceding four bogeys.
Entering the final round, he was sharing the ninth position on the leaderboard. He then opened his final-round campaign with a birdie on the first hole.
He then parred each of the next 12 holes, prior to adding another birdie on the 14th hole. The Bolivian finished the tournament on a high note, by gaining another shot on the final hole.
According to the golf commentators, Montano played really well throughout the week, except in the third round.
Montano himself admitted that he struggled with his game on day three. Yet, he was pleased to make a strong comeback in the final round, to record a respectable finish in the tournament.
