Jose Mourinho accepts Manchester City’s financial superiority over Real Madrid

Real Madrid’s manager Jose Mourinho has openly accepted Manchester City’s financial dominance in this season’s football transfer market. His revelation comes after Manchester City muscled out Real Madrid in the pursuance of Serbian defender Aleksandar Kolarov. Kolarov, who represented Serbia in this year’s World Cup, was bought by Manchester City with the price tag of £16 million. Mourinho’s inability to compete with Manchester City for the left-back and to bring former Gunner, Emmanuel Adebayor from Eastlands has forced him to accept this harsh reality.
Manchester City, under their new ownership, have followed Chelsea’s model of players transfer and has spent about £100 million on new players in the last few months. The financial clout of Abu Dhabi owners has allowed Robert Mancini to outbid Jose Mourinho for the capture of Kolarov from Lazio. However, Real Madrid has also refreshed its squad by bringing new entrants in the form of Sergio Canales, Angel Di Maria, Sami Khedira, Ricardo Carvalho and Mesut Ozil. Despite bringing such plethora of talent, Mourinho believes that the era of Real Madrid’s dominance on transfer market has finally diminished and is replaced by Manchester City. Commenting on Manchester City, he said, “I understand that if someone wants to compete with them for a player it is very difficult, they are dominant in the market. The player they say they want is the player they get. I was interested in Kolarov when I came here but I couldn't compete with them as they went to values that I couldn't.”
Another contact of Mourinho with Manchester City comes in the form of his interest in striker Emmanuel Adebayor. Adebayor who moved from Arsenal to Eastlands last season has apparently fallen out of favour with City’s boss Roberto Mancini. However, former Porto and Inter Milan boss has struck out any possibility of bringing Adebayor to Santiago Bernabaeu. According to Mourinho, Manchester City is unwilling to let Adebayor go and in such circumstances, there is no possibility of any deal. He said, “I think no chance. The historical dimension of Real Madrid and Manchester City you can't compare. But the economical dimension you can compare. So I think at the minute Man City is the club to keep their best players and to buy the players that nobody expects them to buy.”
On the other hand, Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson has declared that he will not let Javier Mascherano leave the club without any hefty compensation. He asked the interested clubs to get ready to match Liverpool’s valuation for the Argentinean. However, Mascherano is unwilling to stay at Anfield and this was clearly exhibited by him when he refused to play for Reds in their 3-0 defeat to Manchester City. The midfielder is clearly frustrated as just one week is left before the transfer window closes and he is clearly exasperated on the fact that Barcelona’s bid for him was too low.
On the other hand, Hodgson has claimed that it was decision to leave Mascherano against East Landers but it is also a fact that Argentinean action has left Liverpool with limited choices. Commenting on Mascherano’s fiasco, former Fulham Manager said, “Unfortunately the fee the club thinks is the correct fee and the fee we are being offered are very far apart. Unless that can be resolved he might be unhappy for a long time to come. But I have no wish to create headlines over the Mascherano situation”. Liverpool is hoping to extract an amount close to €30 million for Mascherano whereas Barcelona’s bid is around £12 million which is considered too low by Liverpool. Barcelona are also willing to give midfielder Alexander Hleb as part of the deal but Liverpool believes that their overall offer is too low for one of the best midfielders in the world. It will be interesting to see how events turn out to be for Liverpool and Mascherano in future.
