Jose Mourinho aims to complete a nine year unbeaten run in home matches
Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho will be hopeful of extending his unbeaten run in home league matches to nine years, when his side plays host to Levante in La Liga on Saturday.
The Portuguese has not lost a league match at home since February 23, 2002. That was back when he was boss of FC Porto; the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Inter-c39567 Milan
and Real Madrid, have been unbeaten in 147 home league matches. They have won 122 of these games and drawn only 25 with 331 goals scored and merely 87 conceded.
Madrid defeated Levante 8-0 earlier this season in the Copa del Rey and hence it is predicted that Mourinho will successfully continue his remarkable home run. The Madrid coach, however, is expected to face stiff competition from the Spanish champions, Barcelona,
when the Catalans travel to the Bernabeu in April.
Mourinho’s only defeat as Madrid’s manager also came at the hands of Barcelona in the Camp Nou; the match ended with a humiliating 5-0 score line. Mourinho feels that he expects that his side will be in full stride in coming seasons and not this one.
He said, “The natural tendency is for us to win something and initiate a cycle that we hope will produce more victories. But my hopes are a lot more for my team next year than this season.”
Mourinho also somewhat silenced rumors linking him with a move back to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 due to problems with the Board members of Madrid. He re-affirmed that he has a good relationship with the president and other members of the top management.
“Today I see the club in the same direction as me,” Mourinho said. “We have the same thought, the same philosophy, there is much more empathy, because the personal empathy has always been very good with the president (Florentino Perez) and Jose Angel (director
general).”
Mourinho, these days, will surely be concentrating on his side’s first leg match in the Champions League against Lyon. Madrid have failed to progress past the round of 16 stage of the competition in the previous six years. Many believe that the main motive
behind Mourinho’s recruitment by Perez was to improve the Spanish giant’s performance in the competition.
Madrid have won the Champions League a record 9 times but in recent years their display in the tournament has been less than satisfactory for the fans. The team has been booed of the pitch, at the Bernabeu, on a number of occasions in previous European competitions.
Mourinho will be hoping to gain the upper hand when his team travels to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899 to play the first leg of the tie against Lyon, at Stade de Gerland. The match will be played on February 22.
