Madrid could have been out of sight had referee Miguel Angel Gamez pointed to the penalty spot during normal exchanges. Jose Mourinho was clearly upset with the refereeing decisions going aginst his side but refused to level criticism against the match official.
Continuing on the topic, the Portuguese tactician remarked that Madrid deserved at least two penalties in the match but cannot complain with the draw as they should have put the match to bed without the chances.
Mourinho praised his side’s performance as they gave their best on the night to get maximum points on the night.
"I won't criticise the referee, but he should have given us two enormous penalties. It's all part of the Liga though," Mourinho said while talking to media representatives during the post-match press conference.
"I have no reason to be critical. It is normal to draw or lose every now and then. I'd have had reasons to be critical if it was the result of a poor attitude, but that's not the case. We got plenty of chances to score.
"I always take into account that we can win, draw or lose. We always do our utmost to win, but we had to settle for a draw. That's La Liga."
The draw brings down Real Madrid’s lead to eight points at the summit of La Liga with eleven league matches yet to be played until the end of the season. Barring an unfortunate dip in form, Los Blancos are in prime spot to be crowned Spanish champions for
the 32nd time in the history.
Real Madrid travel to struggling Villarreal for their next league outing on Wednesday, March 21.
