Jose Mourinho content with current squad
It seems like Real Madrid’s problems are over. They now seem like a complete team, which includes a lot of big players from all over the planet. While they struggled from the start of new season, last few weeks have been enormous, in terms of winning, for
Real Madrid. Their players are finding the net, while Ronaldo is scoring goals as well. For the first time in his life, Mourinho is playing attacking football, while he is showing a lot of improvement as well.
As Florentino Perez took the presidency of Madrid once again in 2009, it was expected that a lot of money would be thrown in to buy new players. After some big investments, Madrid bought Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaka, Karim Benzema and Xabi Alonso in the first
season. In this season, Madrid got hold of Sami Khedira, Angel Di Maria and Mesut Ozil. With so many strong players in his team, Jose Mourinho was still not happy with his squad.
Mourinho did not like the attacking options he had in his team. According to him, the only established strikers were Gonzalo Higuain and Karim Benzema, which made his choices limited. In case both these players suffered injury blows, Mourinho would not be
left with anything to cover for them. So, he sat his eyes on the Spanish striker from Athletic Bilbao, i.e. Fernando Llorente.
However, now Mourinho has said that he would not be buying any new players in the January transfer window. He said that he has enough options, while he does not need any new player. Mourinho said that he would keep on talking about new players because of
the fact that Madrid has funds available. But this does not mean that the manager is looking to buy new players at any cost.
At one point, it seemed that Mourinho would buy players at any cost. Real Madrid was struggling in the earlier matches of the season, as their usual strikers failed to find the net. Goals came from unusual sources, while Gonzalo Higuain and Benzema were
not playing up to the mark. Even, Cristiano Ronaldo was finding it hard to score goals, which was very troublesome for Madrid. However, in the last two matches, Ronaldo and his teammates have been scoring freely, which takes a lot of burden off the manager’s
shoulders.
Real Madrid’s midfield is already as strong as any other midfield in Europe. Although, they had a few problems when Ozil and Di Maria were trying to adjust themselves in new conditions, but the potential has always been there. Now, both these footballers
are playing the best football of their career, which is again a good sign for the manager. Kaka might lose his place in the first team because of his lack of form and fitness issues. Nevertheless, midfield is not a problem for Mourinho, who has spent most
of the Euros in strengthening his midfield.
Defence of Real Madrid is also doing a good job at the moment. Although, Mourinho does not have a lot of variety in defence, but he has some established players in his squad and he can easily rely on them. As a goalkeeper, Madrid has Iker Casillas, who is
the best one around the world. So, when defenders show a lack of concentration, beating Casillas is still not an easy job in the world.
This means that probably Mourinho’s only problem in his strike force. But, he has decided not to buy any new player in the winter, which means that he is content with the current squad. However, this policy might be a result of UEFA’s new regulations, which
would put a limit on club’s expenditures. Already, Madrid has taken heavy loans in order to finance the team under Florentino Perez, while they cannot afford any further loans. It is better for Mourinho to start controlling his finances right now, if he wants
to comply with UEFA’s regulations being implemented in 2012.
