Jose Mourinho denies slamming Fabio Capello and Liverpool
Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho today distanced himself from claims that he slammed England manager Fabio Capello and Liverpool.
Mourinho was quoted by The Daily Mirror as saying that England’s shambolic 2010 FIFA World Cup campaign was due to former Madrid boss Capello’s poor man-management skills while he claimed Steven Gerrard was at the “wrong club” as he would struggle to win major silverware Liverpool.
The former Inter Milan and Chelsea manager has moved to distance himself from those comments after issuing a statement through his spokesperson Eladio Parames.
'False' interview
It read: "The interview published today by The Daily Mirror is completely false. Jose Mourinho never spoke to the newspaper, that's why he categorically denies having said what was written."
With regards to Capello, The Daily Mirror quoted the Portuguese as saying that: "The problem is the manager. Capello will not work for England. He has a one-track relationship with players. Ask anyone here at Real Madrid. He can't change. You cannot go around just shouting at players. They need to feel special. It is clear. Capello will not work for England. He does not know the players. They are frightened of him and they can't play for him."
The newspaper also linked Mourinho with remarks slating English Premier League outfit Liverpool. The Anfield club are under new management after Roy Hodgson took over from Rafael Benitez in the summer. The Daily Mirror reported Mourinho as saying that Hodgson will have his work cut out for him if he is to restore past glory to Merseyside.
It quoted the Portuguese as saying that: "It is very difficult work for Roy to do it with Liverpool as, over the last years, they have been getting worse, worse and worse. He needs time and it’s not easy because I don’t think they went in the right direction."
Parames confirmed that Mourinho is considering taking legal action against the newspaper.
