Malaga and Villarreal held Real Madrid to successive stalemates at the Bernabeu and El Madrigal resulting in a media blockout enforced by the club.
Real Madrid returned to winning ways as they thrashed struggling Real Sociedad 5-1 in their latest La Liga fixture after stuttering in their previous matches against Malaga and Villarreal.
The un-fancied outfits managed to hold Jose Mourinho’s men to successive 1-1 draws, resulting in their impressive and magnanimous 10-point lead at the top of Primera Division rankings slumping to a decent 6.
With controversial refereeing decisions going against the Santiago Bernabeu-based outfit, the Capital club took an unprecedented step of enforcing a media blockout.
Ahead of their match with Osasuna in Pamplona, Jose Mourinho explained the reasoning behind their actions. The Portuguese tactician stated in the pre-match press conference that they found it frivolous to talk about what happened on the field.
Mourinho reflected that they were on the receiving end of media criticism after their Champions League and Copa del Rey ousting at the hands of Barcelona and kept silent.
He pointed towards their fixture against Villarreal and stated that keeping the mouths shut after the severity of decisions going against them was the only way forward for his team.
With the blackout now over, the Special One could not refrain from pointing his finger at the media personnel and stated that Real Madrid are criticised for speaking their minds and vice versa.
"After the Champions League semi-final against Barcelona last season, we opened our hearts and we were killed for it. In the Copa del Rey, as well," he argued.
"In Villarreal, we all decided not to talk about the game to avoid being sanctioned. We did not like [what happened] but we went away quietly, without creating controversy.”
"We thought we were doing something positive and we were criticised for it.”
"So then, the problem is not ours, but yours [the media]. Now we cannot be accused of generating pressure or creating controversy."
