Jose Mourinho faces shortage of strikers at Real Madrid
Real Madrid’s first team coach Jose Mourinho has expressed his concerns over the shortage of strike force at Real Madrid.
Mourinho’s 1st choice forward Gonzalo Higuain is expected to require a surgery. The Argentinean has been suffering from a hernia problem and reports suggest that he may require at least 2 months off the field before returning to full-fitness.
In Higuain’s absence, Karim Benzema is the only recognised front-man for Los Blancos. Benzema, who did not have a great start to the season, is starting to find his best form for the Spanish giants.
The Frenchman struck a brilliant hat-trick in Madrid’s home win over AJ Auxerre in the UEFA Champions League in mid-week.
However, Mourinho is not keen on relying solely on Benzema’s services and wants to recruit fresh faces in the January transfer window.
But, the Portuguese has said that he was not the person who decided on signing new players.
He said, “Signing players is not an issue for me to deal with but I already said at the beginning of the season it would be difficult with only Benzema and Higuain. If I have to go through the rest of the season only with Benzema it will be much more difficult.
But this is something you have to ask the director general and he can tell you the club's position.”
It is rumoured that Madrid have lined up a bid for Ghanaian international Asamoah Gyan as a replacement for Higuain.
Gyan, who currently plays with English side Sunderland FC, has been in sensational form for the Black Cats. Asamoah, who had a remarkable World Cup in S.Africa this summer, is also tipped to become this year’s African Footballer of the Year.
Mourinho is also expecting the return to action of Kaka. The Brazilian talisman has not featured for The Whites this season, but has made good progress in the rehabilitation.
Jose praised the player’s hard work in returning to full-fitness earlier than expected.
He said, "Good work from the medical department, spectacular work from Kaka himself, which is the most important. We are waiting and I think that when we come back from Christmas I hope to have Kaka training with the team again."
Real Madrid, who are 2nd in Liga BBVA, travel to Real Zaragoza on Sunday.
