Jose Mourinho learns to live it the “Spanish way”
The self proclaimed “special one” Jose Mourinho has said that he would have to change his style and adapt to the culture in Spain if he is to achieve success with Real Madrid.
Jose in time with Chelsea used a 4-3-3 formation, and won 2 back-to-back titles with the blues. He went to Italy with the same bag of tactics but admits he had to adjust according to Italian football. He managed to win continuous league titles and also Italian cup and most of all the champions’ league. He said that the challenge that faces him at Madrid is a whole new one and he would have to make some changes if he is to win trophies.
Mourinho said that it is essential for any manager to understand that every league has its own culture. He said that it is not possible for a manager to go to a new country, and hope to work with the same game plan and get results. Jose said that if he tries to implement the same tactics he did at Inter it would not do him any good. He said that the most important thing is to keep in mind is the cultural aspect of the league.
Jose Mourinho said that he enjoyed his time with Chelsea and they are a great team, he said the way Chelsea played last season in England was fantastic but still if they play like that in Spain they would not win the league. Same is the case with Barcelona if they want to make it to the top in English league.
He said that when he makes the team, and plans his strategies for the Spanish league he would have to make sure he respects the style of play in La Liga.
Mourinho said that keeping all things aside, the only thing to remember is that he wants to win, and to do that he would do all the hard work that comes with the job.
Jose said that he has always wanted his teams to play attacking football, and he would do the same at Madrid. He said that this is the only way he knows and this is what has earned him success in England, Italy and Portugal.
The former Inter Milan manager said that he is relishing the opportunity to bring back the glory days to Madrid, and end the domination of Barcelona in the Spanish league.  Jose said that he knows Barcelona very well and the insight of the team has helped him great deal in the champions’ league semi-final when Inter beat Barcelona over 2 legs.
Mourinho worked at Barcelona under Bobby Robson and later with Louis Van Gaal in the 90s, the current coach of Barcelona Pep Guardiola was the club captain at that time. The Real manager said that he knows Guardiola quite well and this would help him setting up a team against him.
Jose said that Guardiola is probably the perfect man for the job at Barcelona; he added that Pep was a player at the club and knows Barcelonan culture better than anyone. He said that Guardiola is a Catalan by heart and who could better lead the club than a man who has spent his whole life idolising the club, as a fan, as a player and now as a manager.
Mourinho ended by saying that the El Classico rivalry is something he is looking forward to, and perhaps this would be the biggest challenge of his managerial career so far. He said that the squad he’s got is nothing short of the best in the world.
