Jose Mourinho out shopping for a Striker
The spending just does not seem to end for big boys for European football. Jose Mourinho, the manager of Real Madrid, who has just secured the transfer of his former player at Chelsea and FC Porto, Ricardo Carvalho is now out to get Romelu Lukaku from Anderlecht.
Jose Mourinho has voiced his need to sign a striker at Madrid ever since taking over the club back in May. Right now he has the services of Karim Benzema and Gonzalo Higuain. Both of them are world class strikers but the departure of the experienced Raul has left a void in the attack department of the team. Cristiano Ronaldo, who is by trade a right winger will be used by Jose in a free roaming role and may also be used as an additional striker when needed.
According to Spanish Media there has been interest from Madrid for the 17 year old Lukaku. The front man has been making news in Belgium recently; he also became the youngest player to score a goal in the Belgian league. Last season he scored 19 goals for his club, and while playing for under-19 team of Belgium he also netted on debut.
However, it is reported that the Belgian club has estimated his price to be a bit too much, and if the tag of 20 million pounds does not come down Real Madrid may opt not to go after him. Madrid may hold back and consider signing him in January thinking of him as a long term investment, but for now Jose is still searching hard to find a world class striker to add to his striker force.
Jose Mourinho is a manager who does not settle for mediocrity. Throughout his career as a manager he has always strived for perfection. During his time at Chelsea he had the backing of billions from the Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich and he did not hold back when it came to getting his player at any price. He made a number of big name signings but not all of them paid off as he had planned.
He signed Andriy Shevchenko from AC Milan for an insane sum of money and at the same time got the captain of Germany Michael Ballack from Bayern Munich. Both players were not an instant hit, even though Ballack did survive longer, Shevchenko was disposed off in one season. The aim behind singing the duo was success for Chelsea in Europe and that did not materialize either. Followed by losing the League title to Manchester United it pretty much was the final nail in the coffin for Jose and he was fired from Stamford Bridge.
So now at another high profile club he is thinking twice before making any new signings as he does not want to have another repeat episode. Mourinho said that Benzema is a world class striker and he does not doubt his ability one bit. The Manager went on to say that this slump in form in first season is very normal and he is confident that Benzema will come good in the upcoming season. While talking about his only other striker in the team ‘Higuain’, he said that nothing more needs to be said about the man who got a brilliant hat trick in the World Cup. He said Higuain has been a regular goal scorer for Real and will continue to do so. He went on to say that despite the 2 being as good as they are it is a long season and he does need some backup in the squad.
