Jose Mourinho pays homage to ‘unique’ Sir Alex Ferguson
Real Madrid head coach, Jose Mourinho, has hailed Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson and has claimed that the legendary manager is ‘unique’. The statement comes in the wake of Sir Alex celebrating his 25th
year in charge of English Premier League giants, Manchester United.
Sir http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alex-c4752 will be celebrating 25 years as the head coach of the Red Devils when United face Sunderland this weekend, and Jose Mourinho had words of praise on offer for the Scottish veteran.
Sir Alex Ferguson and Jose Mourinho have a fair bit of history, too. When ‘the special one’ was brought to Stamford Bridge as the manager of North London club, Chelsea, it didn’t take him time to acknowledge his competition.
Mourinho and Sir Alex have competed against each other on quite a few occasions. When Mourinho’s Chelsea clinched the Premier League in the 2004 season, Sir Alex’s United were third on the table with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 securing second position in the standings.
The next season saw Manchester United evolve in race for the title. Although http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749, their main competition had changed from Arsenal to the Red Devils. Sir Alex’s men finished second that season, and Mourinho had
realized that the competition between the two teams and the two managers could only grow tougher in seasons to come.
Sir Alex led Manchester United to their 16th Premier League title the following season, with Mourinho’s Chelsea ending the campaign on second spot. However, Mourinho did lead Chelsea to an FA Cup victory over the Red Devils. It was at this point
of time that the competition between the managers was at its peak. Mourinho left Chelsea in the next season.
Although the two men have fiercely competed against each other, they have been rumoured to have maintained a friendly relationship ever since Mourinho departed from Stamford Bridge. Both men have spoken highly of each other in the past and still continue
to do so.
There is also some speculation that Mourinho may replace Sir Alex as the manager of Manchester United once the Scot chooses to retire.
While talking to The Sun newspaper, Mourinho had these words to say:
"Sir Alex is a unique manager in the history of Manchester United. Sir Alex is a unique manager in the history of English football. And Sir Alex is a unique manager in the history of European football."
"I really wish he stays in the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Job-c18684 with the same happiness and ambition for many, many more years."
