Jose Mourinho praises Cristiano Ronaldo after Valcencia win
Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho hailed Cristiano Ronaldo after Real Madrid’s victory over Valncia CF in the Liga BBVA on Saturday night.
It was regarded as must-win match for the ‘Special One’ after his side’s ignominious defeat to archrivals FC Barcelona last week at Camp Nou.
However, Jose was able to calm the nerves of the Los Blancos faithful as he managed to ease his way to a comfortable win at the Santiago Bernabeu.
After the match he said, “I changed the team with the aim of not suffering, because I knew what could happen if we didn't control the game. With a stronger midfield and
strong pressure, we were able to control things. It wasn't a day for playing great football or scoring a lot of goals, it was a game we had to win and we will all go home with a different look on our faces. If Valencia had taken the lead my team would not
have had the strength to have got back into the game."
Real’s hero for night was Cristiano Ronaldo who bagged a brilliant brace to give The Whites a much needed win. Ronaldo returned to the top of the scorer’s chart in La Liga
thanks to his wonderful double on the night.
The Portuguese manager was all praise for his ace winger. However, the former Chelsea FC manager revealed that to take all 3 points was the top priority on the night. The
47-year old wanted a positive response from his side and his players didn’t disappoint him.
Jose said, “Cristiano didn' t surprise me at all, he is a winner and I knew he would stand up to be counted and I knew he would do well. The most important thing here was
to win a difficult match, because it is never easy to react after a bad performance like our last game.”
The win takes Real to 35 points after 14 games, 2 points behind the leader Barcelona.
The Spanish champions were in action before Real’s game and beat AS Osasuna 3-0 at Reyno De Navarra.
Ronaldo’s double takes his tally of league goals to 16, 1 more than Barca’s Lionel Messi, who was also on the score sheet against Osasuna.
