Jose Mourinho expressed his satisfaction with Madrid’s performance despite being knocked out of the Copa del Rey against Barcelona.
Mourinho’s men were eliminated from the Copa del Rey by Barcelona, following a 4-3 aggregate defeat.
The two fierce rivals met at the Nou Camp for the second leg of the Copa del Rey quarter-final, this past Wednesday.
Los Blancos were defeated 1-2 by the Catalans at the Santiago Bernabeu in the first match of the two-legged fixture and the league leaders headed into the second leg with a slight disadvantage.
Wednesday’s clash turned out to be a very competitive and awe-inspiring encounter between the two clubs.
La Blaugrana were able to break the deadlock in the 43rd minute, after Pedro scored from a beautifully placed pass by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Daniel-c9879 Alves.
However, Jose Mourinho’s men were able to find a reply in the second half. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Karim-Benzema-c20350 both scored to bring the scores level.
The match ended with both teams unable to secure a victory, despite the creation of several opportunities by Real Madrid.
Despite the final result of the fixture, Jose Mourinho emphasized that Los Blancos performed phenomenally.
According to the club’s official website, the Portuguese mentor was quoted as saying:
"It was easy to talk to my men during half-time, I had few things to change. Half-times are short when your team isn't playing well; those ten minutes don't seem enough. I only needed one minute today [Wednesday] because my team played very well in the first
half. I told them to keep it up. You sometimes score a goal without trying much for one and we happened to fail to score from four or five of our chances.”
Having been knocked out of the Copa del Rey, Madrid will now look forward to their next La Liga fixture as they face Real Zaragoza on Saturday.
