Jose Mourinho responds to former Real Madrid legend Alfredo Di Stefano – La Liga
Real Madrid manager, Jose Mourinho, has responded to Madrid legend Alfredo Di Stefano’s recent criticism by saying that he is coaching for Madrid and not for Stefano.
Among Mourinho’s many critics, the former Real Madrid, Alfredo Di Stefano, is probably the most familiar face. The veteran came up with severe criticism and referred to Mourinho’s coaching style as defensive.
The 84-year-old Stefano’s affiliation with Madrid is part of the history books. He played 13 years for Los Blancos from 1953 to 1966, during which his exemplary performances helped Madrid win five consecutive European Cup championships and eight Primera Division titles. The Spanish club legend was unhappy with how Mourinho employed his men in the 1-1 draw against Barcelona at Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday.
Stefano criticized the defensive mentality of Mourinho and said he didn’t allow the Madrid players to enter the match with an aggressive intent. The Argentinean also added that Barcelona is a far better side than Real Madrid. He slammed Madrid by saying, “Barca play football and dance, Real just dashed from here to there constantly. It’s clear that Barcelona are superior. Real were a team without personality. Their approach was clearly wrong. The football Barcelona played at the Bernabeu was simply brilliant.”
Before the draw, Barcelona had made it a habit of beating Madrid, as the previous five fixtures proved. During the tie on Saturday, Jose Mourinho’s men seemed to run out of ideas on how to break the resilience of the Barcelona defence. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604’s eight point advantage over Real Madrid in the Spanish Primera Liga make them the favourites to be crowned as La Liga winners.
Jose Mourinho, while speaking in his defence said, “I am the coach and the coach is the one who decides. I am the coach,” he repeated. “What do you want to do? It’s me. The decisions are mine. He is one of the most significant people in the history of Real Madrid and I am nothing in the history of Real Madrid.”
Rivals Barca and Madrid are scheduled to meet four times in a short gap of 18 days. Although their first meeting has ended in a draw, there are still two more fixtures including two exhilarating semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League. Both teams will come head to head at Bernabeu and Nou Camp on 23th April and 3rd May for a two leg semi-final in the European Cup.
It is believed that Jose Mourinho’s is going to stick with his defensive approach for the upcoming fixtures because he thinks that a strong defence is the cornerstone for teams who expect to win in modern day football.
