Jose Mourinho rules out bids for Didier Drogba and Emmanuel Adebayor
Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho has ruled out making bids for Didier Drogba and Emmanuel Adebayor this summer despite having made it clear that he would like to sign another recognised striker this summer.
The former Chelsea and Inter Milan boss has been linked with a string of high-profile players since his arrival at the Bernebau, including Manchester City forward Adebayor. However, Mourinho believes that the financial might of the English Premier League club means that it would be impossible to steal the Togolese player away from Roberto Mancini’s squad.
'No chance'
When asked about a potential move for the 26-year-old, Mourinho told Sky Sports News that: “I think no chance. The historical dimension of Real Madrid and Manchester City — you can’t compare. But the economical dimension — you can compare. And maybe they will win (the EPL). So I think at the minute Man City is the club to keep their best players and to buy the players that nobody expects them to buy. I don't think, just one year after buying Emmanuel from Arsenal, he's the player to leave."
Mourinho has also been strongly linked with an interest in signing Drogba, his former charge at Chelsea. In three seasons together at Stamford Bridge, they won two EPL titles, two League Cups, an FA Cup and the Community Shield. Despite being 32 years old, Drogba has got the new season off to a fine start after scoring a hat-trick in the opening 6-0 win against West Bromwich Albion and setting up three goals in a 6-0 thumping of Wigan Athletic.
However, the Madrid boss does not think an attempt to sign the Ivory Coast striker will be successful. Asked about the possibility of securing Drogba’s services, Mourinho said: “Again, no chance.”
