Jose Mourinho says he misses the English game
Former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has said that he misses English football, adding that his current club Real Madrid does not need to recruit a left-back to replace Brazilian Marcelo Vieira.
The outspoken manager spent three seasons with the London club between 2004 and 2007, where he won two Premier League and league cup titles and the 2007 FA Cup.
After winning a historic treble with Inter Milan last season, the Portuguese national left to take charge of Spanish giants Real Madrid this summer.
In light of his outstanding record, there are widespread expectations that Mourinho will deliver silverware to Real during his first season in charge. The club is without a trophy since its league victory in 2008.
"I miss English football and English football misses me. I like English football because the matches only last 90 minutes," the 47-year-old told Spanish publication AS about the differences between the countries he has worked in. "In Spain and in Italy there's
the pre-game and post-game."
The manager could have been referencing the criticism Real have received for not scoring enough goals so far this season.
Despite being in fourth place in the league with 14 points from six games and winning their two Champions League fixtures to date, the club's fans expect entertaining football as well as results at the Santiago Bernabeu.
In light of the high demands on Mourinho, last weekend's 6–1 victory over Deportivo La Coruna will be seen as a step in the right direction.
Marcelo has shown defensive qualities
The manager also dismissed speculation that his team are scouting the market for another left-back. Tottenham's Gareth Bale has been a reported target for the club, but Mourinho insisted that Marcelo, who joined Real in 2007, has shown his defensive pedigree
in training.
"I did not like Marcelo because I felt he was anything but a defender. Now I'm in love with him. When they say that Real want to sign someone else, I say I do not want another left-back. He has offensive and defensive quality and is growing."
