Jose Mourinho slams speculations regarding Manchester City striker Emmanuel Adebayor
Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho has made public his opinion of signing striker Emmanuel Adebayor, claiming that there is ‘no chance’ of the Togo striker joining the Spanish Giants.
The Portuguese coach has been hugely linked with a number of big name transfers, which including Emmanuel Adebayor, who was benched in City 3-0 romping of Liverpool yesterday. Mourinho joined Real Madrid from Inter Milan this season where he led the Italian club to a first ever treble of titles. While talking to the media, Mourinho claimed that it would be very difficult to lure away the Togolese forward away from the Eastlands, owing to the strong financial position of the Manchester based club. The manager therefore claimed that there were no plans of signing the 26-year-old.
"The historical dimension of Real Madrid and Manchester City you can't compare. But the economical dimension you can compare,” claimed the Real Madrid boss. However, the manager claimed that City did have the talent to lift the premier league title in front of Champions Chelsea and runners up Manchester United. Mourinho added that City just needs to hang on to their top performers and buy players which no one expects them to buy. Mourinho claimed that it has been just one year since Adebayor joined City from Arsenal and wouldn’t therefore be expected to leave so early.
Chelsea striker Didier Drogba was also under the radar of Jose Mourinho, as Mourinho brought the Ivory Coast international to Chelsea in 2004. However, Mourinho yet again dismissed the claims of bringing the 32-year-old to the Bernabeu. The manager claimed that this year, Manchester City is a force to reckon with in the market. City has outwitted the Spanish giants on capturing Aleksander Kolarov last month, who joined from Lazio in a 16 million pound move. Manchester City have been on a transfer spree this season, splashing more than 100 million pounds in capturing 6 high profile players this summer.
This has led to Jose Mourinho claiming that even though Real Madrid has been one of the highest spending clubs in history, Manchester City’s spending power just cannot be matched. The manager was well aware of the fact that for any club to compete with Manchester City is nearly impossible, as they have too much financial backing. Owing to this, they get every player they put their rich fingers on, which could make them a top force in Europe in the coming years.
Jose Mourinho claimed his interest in signing Lazio full back Kolarov, but just couldn’t compete with Manchester City’s spending power. The Real Madrid boss added that if they have the money to buy the players, they can do it and likewise, if they have the aim and ambition of winning the premier league, they can achieve that as well. Mourinho labelled the premier league title race as coming down to three clubs, namely Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City. Jose Mourinho dismissed the chances of Liverpool and Arsenal contending for the title, claiming that at least for Liverpool, Roy Hodgson has a tough task ahead. The situation at Liverpool has deteriorated in the past three years and Hodgson needs do to a lot to revive the 18 time English champions. The manager claimed that Roy Hodgson needs time to regroup the club.
Jose Mourinho has signed four new players this season, in the form of Pedro Leon, Angel Di Maria, Sami Khedira and Mesut Ozil. Mourinho looks to break the dominance of arch rivals Barcelona, who have won the La Liga two years going. Mourinho went to Spain to join Real Madrid, in an attempt to win championships all over Europe. The manager has won titles in England, Italy and Portugal and looks to add more silverware to his name. The coach has made his intentions clear; he would stop at nothing to win the La Liga as well as being strong contenders of the UEFA Champions league.
