Jose Mourinho the genius mind behind football clubs
Jose Mourinho, the son of Portuguese goalkeeper José Félix Mourinho is a professional football manger. Mourinho coached five clubs that include Benfica, Leiria, Porto, Chelsea and Internazionale. In the beginning, Mourinho looked for paths into professional management in his hometown. As the time passed by, he gained experience and got a grip over managerial work. Gradually, he started climbing the ladder of success. Jose became the manager of Benfica in September 2000. He showed his abilities there and proved himself as a great coach. Unfortunately, his reign appeared to be at risk when the new president of Benfica wanted someone else to become the coach instead of Mourinho.
He resigned from the club and left the position in December 5, 2000. Though he only got a chance to manage Benfica in nine league games, he served the club with utmost loyalty; bringing improvements to the Benfica club. The proof of Mourinho’s great work was that after he left, the President Vilarinho asked Mourinho to join the club again but he refused.
In January 2001, Mourinho found a managerial post with União de Leiria. He showed his talents over there and also took them to the fifth place the highest ever league finish.
After staying with Leiria Club for one year, Mourinho was selected by FC Porto in January 2002 to replace Octávio Machado. That same year, Mourinho guided the team to third place. In 2003, Mourinho won his first Portuguese Liga with 11 clear points against the very team that he quit 2 years earlier, Benfica. He also won the Portuguese Cup and the UEFA cup, both in May 2003. Porto, under the coaching of Mourinho also defeated AS Monaco, Manchester United, Olympique, Lyonnais and Deportivo La Coruna. As a result of his European and Domestic success, he was linked with several top European clubs like Liverpool, Chelsea, and Real Madrid which turned out to be fruitful for his professional career.
After spending a good two years with FC Porto, Mourinho joined Chelsea in June 2004 and became the highest paid football manager with a salary of 4.2 million pounds a year. By early December, they were at the top of the Premier League table. They won the League Cup against Liverpool. The team defeated Arsenal and won the FA Community Shield and topped the Premier League. Another significant victory for Chelsea was against Manchester United in the 2007 FA Cup Final. Additionally, the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS) named him the world's best football manager for both the 2004–05 and 2005–06 seasons. All of a sudden in September 2007, Mourinho left Chelsea as the most successful manager in its history due to some issues.
In June 2008, Roberto Mancini handpicked Mourinho for Internazionale on a three-year contract. In his leadership, Internazionale won the SuperCoppa Italiana 2008, Serie A for the 2009/10 seasons, Coppa Italia 2010 and finally winning the UEFA Cup League 2010. Though this team did not have any star players, but they did have a ‘star coach.’ The final for UEFA Cup league was held on May 22. Bayern Munich and Internazionale went head to head against each other. Internazionale is a club based in Italy however; the world knows it from the name Inter Milan. Inter Milan went on to win the UEFA Champions League 2010. Undoubtedly, all the players in the team gave their best but the credit still goes to Jose Mourinho.
He was the person behind the scene, making the players look good on the field.
Most Probably, Mourinho’s next step is to take charge at the Bernabeu. On his appointment there, he will sign a four-year contract worth £10 million a year— an enormous deal for a manager. When he was asked if he was set to join Madrid, he responded: “Yes.” He went on to say: “I want another challenge in my career. I want to become the only coach to win the Champions League with three different clubs. And I think for every coach, if you don't coach Real Madrid you have always a little space in your career. So if I decide to come to Real Madrid, I'll be a very proud man.”
