The Real Madrid tactician was critical of Chelsea and Bayern Munich’s fixture program which allowed them to rest as many as eight first team regulars.
Real Madrid suffered the ignominy of bowing out of UEFA Champions League at the hands of an inspired Bayern Munich. The German giants now look forward to a final appearance against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 at the Allianz Arena at the end of May.
Jose Mourinho could not blame the players to be at fault as he believed they gave their best in the crunch European fixture but believes their downfall in Europe has seeds elsewhere.
Both finalists, Chelsea and Bayern Munich, have nothing at stake in their domestic league competitions and used fringe players to make up numbers in their weekend appointments.
The Special One was critical of the situation and remarked that that while his men were involved in a title deciding match against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604, his rivals had a comfortable rest.
Continuing on the subject, he enthused that had Los Blancos lost their focus on La Liga they might be playing in the final at the Allianz Arena instead of their German counterparts.
"Both of them [Bayern and Chelsea] used their second squads this weekend, and they played versus Barca and Real, who played the most important match of the domestic season last weekend.”
"It's our fault. If we were not playing for La Liga we would have not lined up our best men last Saturday.”
Mourinho continued his rant on the finalists as he made further excuses for the failure of Real Madrid to progress.
He stated that it is always difficult to remain competent in more than one competition and believes that the final will not be as fiery due to the modest standings of the two competing outfits.
"[It is] very difficult to stay in more than one competition. The final of the Champions League will be played between the fifth team of the Premier League and the second of the Bundesliga, [who are] 10 points behind [the league leaders]."
With Champions League out of their way, Real Madrid return their focus to La Liga where they welcome Sevilla to the Santiago Bernabeu.
