Jose Mourinho wants time to create Real Madrid magic
Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho today claimed that he is the man who can give long-term stability to the La Liga giants, but insisted that there was no magic solution and that he would need time to do so.
The Spanish club have been very active in the transfer market this summer, shelling out to land experienced campaigner Ricardo Carvalho from Chelsea as well as hugely promising young talents such as 2010 FIFA World Cup stars Mesut Ozil and Sami Khedira.
That, along with the fact that the majority of those who competed at the World Cup were allowed to have an extended summer break, has meant that Mourinho has not had many opportunities to have his entire squad at training sessions.
'No Harry Potter'
Mourinho told Spanish daily newspaper AS that, unlike fictional wizard Harry Potter, he would not be able to magically resolve the Madrid board’s desperation to get their hands back on the La Liga title Barcelona have claimed for the past two seasons.
He said that: “I am a coach, not Harry Potter. He is a magician. Magic is fiction and I live for football, which is real. I’ve only been in Madrid for two months. Do you know how many training sessions I have had with everyone together, including the new signings? Not even 10.
'Ideal person'
“My profile as a coach is different to what it has been in recent years. If things go badly I have to leave. I would have one of the best clubs in the world waiting for me. This personal stability allows me to say I am the ideal person to be at Madrid because I fear nothing. Madrid need stability, and I am here to give it.”
Mourinho, whose first competitive fixture in charge of Madrid saw them fail to impress after a goalless draw with Real Mallorca in the league, joined the Bernebau outfit this summer after winning three trophies with Inter Milan last season, including the UEFA Champions League.
That has led to high expecations of Mourinho's potential to meld Real Madrid into a similar force.
