Jose Mourinho wants to manage a MLS franchise
Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho, who once proclaimed himself as the ‘special one’ during his time at Chelsea, has said that it is his dream to manage a Major League Soccer franchise.
During an interview with the Italian media, the Real Madrid manager expressed his desire and said, “My idea is to stay at the top of European soccer for the next 10 to 15 years. After that I would like to have a completely different experience in the United
States – the New York Red Bulls or Los Angeles Galaxy, a home in Manhattan or a home in Malibu. That’s the idea I have.”
The 48-year-old Portuguese is currently in his first campaign with Real Madrid who are sitting in second place in the La Liga and are very much in contention of ending their trophy drought. They are in the final of Copa del Rey where they will face Barcelona
and are also in the last-16 of the UEFA Champions League where they face Olympique Lyonnais of France.
Before becoming the manager of Real Madrid, Jose Mourinho had a successful managerial stint at Inter Milan where he won the Scudetto, the Champions League and the Coppa Italia. He has also been a success at Chelsea where he helped the side to win back-to-back
Premier League titles. Mourinho rose to prominence when he upset the whole football order in Europe as he managed FC Porto to a Champions League triumph in 2004.
The Portuguese manager has been known to keep on taking new challenges and is expected to manage English Premier League giants Manchester United when current manager Sir Alex Ferguson retires. The former Inter Milan coach had also previously indicated that
he would one day want to manage the Red Devils.
If Jose Mourinho gets a chance to manage a MLS franchise, it will definitely help in raising the popularity level of soccer in a country that is obsessed with football, basketball, ice hockey and baseball.
