Jose Mourinho wins FIFA Ballon d’Or for Best Coach of 2010
Jose Mourinho lifted the honour for being the FIFA World Coach of the Year for Men's Football (year 2010) for his performances with Inter Milan and Real Madrid. He won the award against two worthy opponents, Pep Guardiola of Barcelona
and Vicente Del Bosque of Spain. What gave Mourinho an edge over his rivals was a famous treble for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Inter-c39567 Milan.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/South-Africa-c757, an unparalleled event in the history of Spanish football. The greatness
of Del Bosque lay in the fact that he brought together a set of players from Real Madrid and Barcelona but helped them in setting aside the rivalry that existed in the Primera Division.
However, the fact remains that talent was available to Del Bosque and he did not have to work too hard to achieve this success. Also, the foundations were laid by two managers, Pep Guardiola of Barcelona, who provided 6 players
in the starting XI, and Luis Aragones, who won the Euro 2008 with the Spanish side. Therefore, his achievements were in no way equal to the achievements of Jose Mourinho.
Pep Guardiola was also shortlisted in the top three but he would never have won it against Jose Mourinho. Guardiola failed to get past Mourinho’s Inter Milan in the Champions League, which was a clear tactical loss against the
eventual winner of the award. Towards the end of the year, Guardiola did have his revenge as he thrashed Mourinho’s Real Madrid by 5-0 in his home ground. Nevertheless, it was not enough to win the award against a person who had no weakness throughout the
season, except for that single glitch on one particular day.
During the last year, Jose Mourinho won everything that came along his way. He won the Serie A title with Inter Milan and won the Coppa Italia against AS http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roma-c31603. However, it was his Champions League success that was the highlight
of the year. Inter were placed in a strong group, alongside the holders Barcelona. Nevertheless, after making past the group stages, Inter faced the challenge of Mourinho’s former club http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786. It was a tough challenge but Mourinho emerged on top of his old
team.
After beating Chelsea and CSKA Moscow in the opening knockout stages, Mourinho faced Pep Guardiola’s Barcelona in the semifinal. During the first leg, Inter came back from behind and won the tie by 3-1. In the second leg, the Portuguese
manager resorted to his old tactics of sitting back and defending. Barcelona could only manage one goal despite having more than 80% of the possession during the game. This was the most difficult task in Inter Milan’s Champions League campaign. They won the
final easily against Bayern Munich by a comfortable score of 2-0.
Everyone knew that Mourinho will not be staying at Inter Milan after his treble winning season. Therefore, in search of a new challenge, the manager went on to join Real Madrid in a bid to win them something against a strong Barcelona
side. Although Mourinho lost the first leg of El Clasico, he is still in contention for all the trophies in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Spain-c3011 as well as in Europe. With Madrid, Mourinho had the best start of the season and enjoyed a little time ahead of the archrivals Barcelona as well.
Also, his home record has extended to 143 unbeaten games, which is also another incredible achievement for the manager.
In the end, it was a great achievement for the ‘Special One’, who really deserved to win the award. Although, he feared that Del Bosque might get the edge, there was no one better than Mourinho to be declared as the best of last
year.
“I feel myself the best of 2010 because in 2010 my team won absolutely everything,” he said, after winning the award. “I’ve had 10 consecutive great years. In 2010, I did with Inter the treble, which is for a club coach the maximum
you can achieve. But Pep is top, Del Bosque is top and you cannot forget as a top coach we have in the world of football Sir Alex (Ferguson of Manchester United) and (Chelsea’s Carlo) Ancelotti, so many other top coaches that one day this award has to go to
them.”
