As a gesture of sportsmanship, Jose Mourinho expressed his well wishes for Eric Abidal, who plays for his side’s greatest foes.
Mourinho has emphasized that issues regarding a player’s health and career are far more important than the rivalry between the clubs and stated that he wants to show his support for Abidal as a sportsman.
French international and Barcelona full-back, Eric Abidal, was reported to undergo a liver transplant earlier this week. In continuance of the player’s struggle regarding his health, the defender will now have to get his liver operated.
Although the transplant will significantly help the Frenchman cope with his health problems, there is a possibility that the player might say an early goodbye to the sport of football.
The 32-year-old was diagnosed with a liver tumour last season and had to remain sidelined for an extended period.
Even though the tumour was removed by March of 2011, Abidal could only return to action as the season was drawing to a close.
After the removal of the tumour, the defender knew that the problem could only be properly solved once a transplant takes place, yet he continued to train and feature for La Blaugrana this season.
However, the transplant now appears to be a necessity as the player’s condition deems it as a requirement at this stage.
As the news regarding the transplant broke, players and trainers all over http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Spain-c3011 rallied together to show support for the veteran defender.
Interestingly, even the rivals of Abidal’s club have decided to back the French player. First it was his compatriot, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Karim-Benzema-c20350, and now it is Jose Mourinho who has taken out time to express his sympathy for the player.
While addressing a press conference, the Portuguese mentor was quoted as saying:
“Abidal is a fantastic guy, who has had a great career. If he can play again, wonderful; you have to applaud him. If he cannot because it is very serious, we just have to wish him a long and happy life."
"We all know that we are all together. Our players will show it this morning, without words, without public demonstrations, there is no Real Madrid or Barca, no colours, just a young man who everyone hopes will have a fantastic life.”
Real Madrid drew their fixture against Malaga and are now 8 points clear of Barcelona in La Liga.
