Jose Mourinho's Real Madrid crush Jol's Ajax - Part 2
Cristiano Ronaldo, who was determined to get his name on the score sheet began the second half with a chance to add to his goals tally. He was played in by a ball threaded through by Benzema but Stekelenburg was able to keep it out. Stekelenburg like Suarez
had been attracting attention from top Premier League sides with Arsenal and Manchester United thought to be at the head of the list.
Ajax also managed to register their first meaningful attack of the second half soon after when a free kick was kept out by Iker Casillas in the Madrid goal. The game continued to be dominated by Madrid while Ajax looked to try and prevent Madrid from scoring
while launching sporadic attacks.
This strategy was put to the sword when Madrid scored their third goal on the night and Ajax were well and truly out of the game. Another one of Mourinho’s new recruits Argentine youngster, Angel Di Maria broke up an Ajax attack and dribbled the ball forward
before playing in a pass to Ronaldo who placed his shot precisely into the corner.
Ronaldo celebrated with his team mates and Madrid supporters were singing happily in the stands. The Portuguese, who is arguably the best player in the world, did not have to wait long to double his tally for the match. German Mesut Oezil’s bag of tricks
was too much to handle for Urby Emanuelson who brought him down inside the penalty box and Madrid were awarded a penalty.
Ronaldo stepped up and converted the penalty with calm that showed the gulf between the two sides. Mourinho could not have been happier as his side was functioning like a well oiled machine on full power and they had been clinical in front of goal. What
was sure to dampen his mood, though, was that Madrid ended the game with just nine men.
First Xabi Alonso, who was already on a yellow card got his second yellow of the evening when he was adjudged to be wasting time by the referee. He was given his marching orders and was chuffed as he went off the field. His compatriot from the Spanish team
clearly had not been paying attention to the event as he too dawdled on the ball and was penalized for time wasting.
He was shown his second yellow card and given his marching orders. It was a rather stupid way for Madrid to lose two key players after they were four goals to the good and it was pointless to waste time when they were clearly going to win.
Mourinho was rightfully caught on camera with an enraged expression. He was sure to lay into the two players after the match as both are influential members of the side and would miss the next game. The match ended on this sour note for the Madrid side and
took much of the gloss off a commanding performance by their side. The match ended at 4-0.
The win puts Real Madrid at the top of their group and ensures they progress forward. Ajax are eliminated from the Champions League but a good showing in their next match against AC Milan will put them in good stead for a Europa League campaign. For Real
Madrid and their skeptics, it shows a new side of Madrid that the arrival of Jose Mourinho had added to them.
The calm calculated football coupled by breathtaking counter attacks and wonderful dribbling ability in the middle of the pitch make Madrid strong candidates to better their previous showings and finally capture the Champions League.
