Jose Mourinho’s celebration earns Villarreal substitute Cani a red card
Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho was involved in another controversial incident, during the fixture against Villarreal, in La Liga, when his side secured a convincing 4-2 win. The Portuguese manager reacted as he always does when
his side scores a goal in an important fixture. However, that would not have been a problem had the Special One remained in his half of the dugout. As expected, he ended up in front of the Villarreal bench, which led to Cani, the Villarreal substitute throwing
a bottle at the Madrid boss.
Mourinho cannot really be blamed for reacting the way he did, considering the fact that the recently returned Kaka sealed victory in front of the home crowd with a striker in the 82nd
minute. The Portuguese left his designated technical area while passing through the Villarreal stand, punching his arm in the air and facing the substitutes. As a result, Cani reacted angrily by throwing a water bottle at the Madrid coach, which happened
to miss him. However, the action itself was punishable by a red card and that is exactly what was shown to the player by the match referee David Fernandez.
Jose Mourinho admitted that he was shocked by Cani’s reaction to his celebration, saying that his celebration was perfectly innocent and not aimed at the opposition. He said while speaking to reporters on the incident, “I went
to celebrate the goal with my son who was behind the visitors' bench, and the Villarreal players thought I was provoking them. I hope that when one swears on their son they believe you. I think this (situation) comes from a state of affairs where everything
I do is always classed as negative.”
Surprisingly, Villarreal boss Juan http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Carlos-Garrido-c8443 did not blame Mourinho for the red card shown to his substitute. He was critical of the referee though, suggesting he favoured the home side, but did not push the matter further.
According to him, it was a misunderstanding, which led to the unfortunate incident and in effect the red card. He said while speaking to reporters, “I think Mourinho went to celebrate with the fans and my players took a different interpretation, and the referee
sent off http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Cani-c8305.”
Despite Mourinho’s claims to innocence, one cannot help but wonder if the Portuguese manager really was celebrating the goal with his son. Mourinho has been accused on various occasions of provoking the opposition with his celebrations,
which have sometimes landed him in trouble. A recent incident was in the Champions League semifinal, last season, when Mourinho’s http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Inter-c39567 Milan won against Barcelona; Mourinho was seen running across Nou Camp celebrating with the players. He escaped liability,
saying he was just excited about the win and wanted to see the travelling fans seated at the upper tiers on the other side of the ground.
