Jose Reyes and Hanley Ramirez set to revive Miami Marlins’ run scoring ability in 2012 - MLB
Inability to get runs from their top line-up had hurt the Marlins heavily last season and their improvement in this area will determine their chances this season. Preparations in this regard have been underway since the start of the year. Inclusion of Jose
Reyes tells of the consciousness the club has about their likely flaws.
Touted as being a high scoring side throughout their history, the Marlins were at their lowest in 2011 in terms of scoring runs. Among reasons for decline were injuries players suffered and the fact, as many believe, frequency of home-runs reduced sharply
due to the aggressive pitchers that were faced in the League.
For whatever reason that the Marlins have not been able to score many runs, the club has made preparations through an analysis of a few players that the team believe will lift the side immensely during the 2012 regular season.
As Ramirez was restricted to only a few matches in 2011, the Marlins received a serious setback. Apart from injury, he had poor form as he hit with a .243 batting average and an unimpressive OBP of .333. Now as Spring Training goes and Ramirez is looking
at his best in the games played so far, he holds the promise of doing some serious damage during the regular season.
Jose Reyes is another player in line of becoming a substantial contributor for the team. Last year National League Batting Champion, his recognition as an acrobatic run stealer and powerful hitter is beyond doubt.
Despite availability of requisite resources, their pitcher friendly New Marlins Park and injuries of some players like Greg Dobbs and Logan Morrison appear as potential hurdles.
While they can mitigate the impact of their vast spread-out ballpark by relying more on singles and line drives, rising injuries among players are going to be the biggest concern for the management.
As home-runs have become a rarity in particular during a last few years, modern baseball is going to be a real contest between fielders and batters.
How effectively batters can hoodwink players standing at various base positions will determine their success. Keeping this in mind and analysing this from the perspective of an amazing run stealing ability both Ramirez and Reyes are one reason for the Marlins
to be optimistic.
