Jose Reyes clears way for New York Mets 2-1 victory over Milwaukee Brewers – MLB Update
Jose Reyes hit a triple on Tuesday, June 7, in the crucial seventh inning to help the New York Mets beat the Milwaukee Brewers 2-1 at Miller Park, Milwaukee.
Tuesday’s game had all the excitement to add to the game’s taste for the starting pitchers. Both Shaun Macrum and Chris Capuano took on their rivals with the remarkable efficiency. Capuano maintained his dominance until sixth inning when Prince Fielder homered
to centre to score the first run of the game.
However, that one run did not cause the havoc that a scoreless game usually does. "Once you get on the mound and you lock in on that target, after you let that first pitch go, all that other stuff disappears," Capuano said. "It's just a matter of getting
yourself to that point with the minimum amount of distraction possible."
Once Capuano gave up two hits and allowed the first run of the game as a whole, New York left no stone unturned to come back hard in order to keep the fate of game within their reach. The Mets’ offence sparked in the very next inning to not only reverse
the lead but also lay the groundwork for success.
To carry the day, it was Reyes who came forward, as he tripled to deep centre, 11th of his career, on Marco Estrada’s pitch and got a 2-1 lead.
Reyes performance inspired awe and fascination across the Mets’ camp especially that of New York Mets’ manager Terry Collins.
"I've never had a player like that where he is so exciting to watch," Collins said. "I'll tell you what, when he hits a ball in the gap or down the line, he is right out of the batters box -- and he wants it, badly."
Capuano was relieved and Pedro Beato was introduced. He did not falter and pitched a shut-out inning to maintain the lead. Beato’s feat put things in order for the upcoming pitchers.
Jason Isringhausen and Francisco Rodriguez simultaneously pitched shut-out eighth and ninth innings to set the scene for a welcome victory for the Mets.
It will be interesting to see how the New York Mets carry their winning momentum into their next match-up of the season. The Brewers put in a decent performance, but unfortunately it was not enough to contain the Mets’ offence.
