Jose Reyes curses himself over five fielding errors in the beginning of the season - MLB Update
As the Miami Marlins plummet on the table, players have started to come up with the acknowledgment of their errors. Jose Reyes is one of the first ones in this regard, who currently goes through a disappointing regular season so far, nearly opposite to what
he saw last season.
Five fielding errors are not that big a number however stars like Reyes who set high standards for themselves are sure to take them as a grave decline in their performance.
He is one of those players Marlins envisaged a huge contribution from when they signed him through one of the most extravagant off-season deals.
Apart from his plays at the shortstop, he has not been hitting and stealing singles the way he has done throughout his career.
One may however throw a point in the meantime that since Reyes plays with a side which has not been the best of teams his below par performance is to be an obvious outcome of the kind of players he is playing with therefore.
The fact he missed on the throws Donnie Murphy sent at him and a drop of pop up fly, along with the collision with Hanley Ramirez points every single thing happening to him as the result of none other than himself alone.
So flabbergasted he was with himself that he believed making errors is costlier than not getting the hits and therefore he said even if he fares poor on the plate, making good plays from the shortstop will be the last thing he will prefer.
“I’d prefer to go 0 for 5 than to make an error in the field,’’ Reyes said. “That’s something I don’t like because when you make an error, that means you’re giving the other team another opportunity to do some damage.’’
Reyes aims to learn from his mistakes and does not want to repeat them in the next games.
“Mistakes are part of the game, but I need to control those kinds of mistakes,’’ he said. “It’s going to get better.’’
Vindication of the $108 million deal with the Marlins remains the challenge for him. As it has hardly come about so far, he will hope to make necessary strides in this quest.
