Jose Reyes might attract offers from NL East teams – MLB Update
While the New York Mets are still debating on Jose Reyes’ future with the ballclub, other teams in National League East division are picking up pace to tap the All-Star slugger before it gets late. The Mets, on the contrary, still believe that Reyes should
remain loyal to the only ballclub that he has ever known, at a lower price and for a shorter-term.
This proposition is not an option for Reyes, who became batting champion this past season for his valuable contributions from the plate. He went one better than Milwaukee Brewers’ Ryan Braun and Los Angeles Dodgers’ Matt Kemp in the battle for the crown,
fighting his leg injury to win his first career title.
Braun is actively lobbying with the Brewers in a bid to sign Reyes to the Brewers, who lost to St. Louis Cardinals in the pennant race this past season. The Brewers aim at reinforcing the roster for the next season and Jose’s addition will be commendable
in this regard. With Prince Fielder likely to change alliance, an offer for Reyes might be in the making.
The San Francisco Giants might also bid for Reyes so as to improve their offensive and defensive strength. Reyes is an extraordinary talent at shortstop and is equally talented with the bat, continuously proving his worth at the Majors for seven years running.
The indication that Mets are not interested in signing their home-grown player on encouraging conditions has made division competitors more fascinated towards Reyes. The Washington Nationals and Florida Marlins plan to strengthen their respective rosters
during the offseason and Reyes’ addition to any line-up will bolster the team immensely. Both teams are ready to spend excessively and thus the extra bucks for Reyes should not be an issue.
Marlins’ manager Ozzie Guillen has an aggressive mentality and the way Reyes approaches the game might be of attraction to him. However, there has been no statement from the management thus far.
With Albert Pujols expected to leave Cardinals and Tony La Russa gone, an offer for Reyes to fill shortstop might be in the making. However, this will only materialise if the Cardinals fail to retain Pujols.
