Jose Reyes’ single in tenth leads Miami Marlins to a 4-3 win against Atlanta Braves - MLB Update
Shortstop Jose Reyes singles in the bottom of the tenth as he helps the Miami Marlins edge out the Atlanta Braves 4-3 at Marlins Park, Miami on September 18, 2012 in the second game of the three match series.
Braves were silent for the most part of the game except for the ninth inning when they scored three runs. Before the ninth, Marlins were leading by three runs which meant that victory was not far and did not require any miracle to happen.
However, the run-rampage in the last inning coming from the Braves took them by surprise. Their victory which was almost certain before was at-stake from there onward. They needed to play well under pressure during the extra inning to make sure the Braves
do not run away with the win.
Thanks to the timely single struck by Reyes, Marlins were able to restore their lead in the tenth.
Marlins' starter Nate Eovaldi was extremely impressive in eight innings as he struck-out five and did not give up any run in the game. He yielded just four hits on Tuesday.
Offensively Marlins banked on a two-run homer by the catcher John Buck and the single by centre fielder Gorkys Hernandez to post three runs.
Braves’ manager Fredi Gonzalez comments on a massive hit slammed by Buck on Tuesday and on how the fielder failed to make the proper play in centre field.
''I think he went so far back that he felt like the wall had to be close there, and it kind of threw him off,'' Gonzalez said.
Braves’ catcher Brian McCann stepped up at the plate as part of their last inning counter-attack on Tuesday. He managed a double which led two base-runners aboard. As a result, the score was tied.
''We fought back to tie it up,'' McCann said. ''All you can ask is for everybody to play hard. That's what we did, and it didn't go our way.''
Even as the Braves were defeated their confidence will be high going into the next match because they did not let the Marlins win easily.
They will be aiming at wreaking a crushing defeat to the Marlins in the last match of the series.
