Jose Reyes sparks as New York Mets defeat Texas Rangers 8-5 – MLB Update
New York Mets’ short-stop, Jose Reyes was impressive right through the game as he went 4-for-5 with an average of .341 and added three runs including one RBI in the Mets’ 8-5 win against the Texas Rangers at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington, on June 26.
The Mets defeated the Rangers 2-1 in a three-game series at Texas.
In the first inning, the Mets scored one run when Reyes singled and Justin Turner advanced to second base on a throwing error. On the other side, the Rangers’ batters posted two runs to go-ahead 2-1 at the bottom of the first inning.
Michael Young struck a solo homer (410 feet) towards left-centre to tie the game, but Adrian Beltre scored a tie-breaking run when Mitch Moreland singled off centre-field and Nelson Cruz moved to third base.
The Mets’ batters took charge in the second inning and smashed four runs to take a 5-2 lead. Ronny Paulino posted the first run of the inning when Angel Pagan hit a grounder towards third base. Reyes singled to left-field and Daniel Murphy scored the second
run while the third and fourth run was taken by Pagan and Reyes as Carlos Beltran drove towards centre-field.
During the third and fourth inning, the pitchers were on top by delivering fastballs to the batters. The Mets’ starter, Dillon Gee pitched six innings with an ERA of 3.32 and gave away three runs on eight hits including three earned runs. He was able to
strike-out just one batter and permitted two walks on his 102 pitches.
Gee commented on the game and said, “I was a little nervous. It was really weird being here and pitching. They're an amazing hitting club so I felt pretty pleased with what I did today, especially with not very good stuff.”
The Rangers reduced the lead 5-3 in the fifth inning when Endy Chavez added one run on the single-run shot of Young towards centre-field. However, the Mets continued to raise their lead as Paulino and Murphy both posted two runs collectively and took a 7-3
lead during the sixth inning. Seventh and eighth inning went totally in favour of the pitchers as they did not allow even a single run.
In the ninth inning, the score-card moved to 8-5 when Reyes scored one run for the Mets while Andres Blanco and Ian Kinsler added the last two runs of the game to cut the Rangers’ deficit.
