Jose Reyes sympathises with Ozzie Guillen after his sacking by Miami Marlins-MLB Update
Miami Marlins’ shortstop Jose Reyes feels for Ozzie Guillen, who has been fired by the club following their dismal performance in 2012 Major League regular season.
Reyes states that Guillen has been ousted because he and the rest of the players in the team did not step up and helped the club win matches.
He has explained that the failure from their part has cost Guillen his job in the club. He considers everyone as responsible and believes that blaming Guillen entirely is unfair.
Reyes and Guillen enjoy a great relationship with each other as friends. It is natural that the former expresses sympathy with the latter at the time of his distress.
While Reyes speaks highly about Guillen, not all the players hold the same view about him.
Relief pitcher, Heath Bell criticised Guillen for not communicating with the players and taking decisions unilaterally before he was traded by the Marlins.
While denouncing him, he went on to suggest that Guillen was the main reason why he could not perform effectively.
Bell deserted the Marlins in the season frequently. He blew their leads late in the innings as closer on a number of occasions. Despite being given opportunities, he could not improve.
As far as Reyes is concerned, he will be conscious of the real reasons that instigated the ouster of Guillen from the club. The Marlins stated in the formal declaration that the inability to develop a winning culture in the team by Guillen forced them to
dismiss him and look for his successor.
Reyes did not think that Guillen will be sent packing in the offseason and for the same reason the news took him aback.
"It's surprising to me, of course," Reyes said. "Like I said, it wasn't his fault the way we were playing. We are the ones who are playing on the field. I had a great relationship with him. We had a lot of good communication. To see him go is kind of sad
for me, like I said, because I got along very good with him. But I don't make those decisions; I just play baseball."
Reyes will be hoping that the replacement of Guillen helps the team progress and put up better performances in the years to come.
