Jose Reyes to return early as the New York Mets struggle – MLB News
The New York Mets’ short-stop Jose Reyes who was suffering from left hamstring is expected to play on Monday. Having encountered immense difficulty in running, Reyes rehab session for the last four days’ is finally bearing fruit now.
"I can't wait, man, I can't wait," Reyes, out since July 3, said of returning. "I want to be on the field to help my team out, to continue to do what I do in the first half to position us every day to win a game. I love the game, and I don't want to be on
the DL. I want to be on the field."
Although he was certainly not comfortable with running due to injury, he is positive about the return. "I feel better, it feels like normal," Reyes said.  "Like I said, I don't feel tired, I don't feel sore, I feel normal."
Being confined to the disabled list since July 3, the 15 day rest will formally come to an end today. However, owing to the importance of this short-stop, the entire management is weighing their option thoughtfully.
The team manager Terry Collins holds that the club is “cautious” despite the fact that there is an intense desire to see him on the field. In his absence, the New York Mets lost the series on Sunday, July 17 against the Philadelphia Phillies.
Phillies won the three-game series by 2-1 with an 8-5 victory. Considering the fact that both the defence and offence did not seem in good shape, Reyes’ return undeniably holds much weight for the team.
Reyes has remained 350 at-bats in the 80 games that he has played in this season. The short-stop has maintained an enviable average of .354 with his 124 hits and 65 runs which also include three home-runs with 32 RBIs.
In the last ten games prior to July 3 that he played, the Mets won six, proving beyond a doubt the efficacy of the player. The current loss that the team has borne against the Phillies now shows he has to return sooner than later.
The Mets now stand 15th in the ranking with their 47 wins and as many losses. Similarly, and perhaps worryingly, the Mets remain far behind the top two teams in the Eastern Division, the Phillies and the Atlanta Braves.
The Phillies stand first with 59 wins and the Braves 56, keeping the Mets way behind with their 47 wins. His practice sessions for last few days and running full speed are a harbinger of something good for the Mets who will face the Florida Marlins on Monday.
