Jose Sulaiman: Chisora might be fined and recommended to take anger management classes – Boxing news
According to WBC President Jose Sulaiman, Dereck Chisora will probably be fined for $50,000 and will be recommended to take anger management classes.
In addition, he said, Chisora might also face a lifetime or a long-term ban from the sport.
Earlier in the day, news of BDB, a German boxing federation, fining and banning Chisora surfaced. The federation recommended the WBC and BBBC to take necessary actions in order to ensure such actions are not repeated in the future.
When asked about the WBC’s stance on this issue in an interview, Sulaiman replied, “The WBC is probably going to impose a 50,000 fine…and also we’re going to recommend and require he [Chisora] goes into anger management medical treatment and with that it
will be a suspension, an indefinte suspension until the time the medical staff lets us know that he is mentally in his proper mind. That’s what the WBC is considering.”
The BDB had also fined Chisora for $100,000 and is now holding onto his $500,000 fight purse he had to receive. Three incidents that took place from between Friday and Saturday compelled the BDB to take such harsh decisions. Even though Chisora had apologised
for his behaviour, most officials thought it is important to punish him in order to make sure no other boxer attempts such misbehaviour in the future.
Chisora for fined and suspended mainly being involved in three incidents. The first incident took place on Friday night at the pre-bout face-off photography session, in which Dereck Chisora slapped his Saturday night opponent and the current WBC world heavyweight
Vitali Klitschko.
The second incident took place right after the fight when Dereck Chisora spat water in the face of his opponent’s elder brother Wladimir Klitschko, after being defeated by Vitali. The third incident took place when Dereck Chisora got involved in a barehanded
brawl with David Haye at the post-bout press conference.
In a press statement on Monday, Dereck Chisora said he was ashamed of bringing a bad name to the sport he loves the most.
However, his apology did not do any good to him and now he is facing punishment for his wrongdoings.
