Jose Veras will be the seventh-inning man for the Milwaukee Brewers
The Milwaukee Brewers indicated on Tuesday, March 20, that they will have Jose Veras as the club’s seven-inning man. As the team proceeds with the Cactus League, this is an announcement that will indeed have a far-reaching impact on the Brewers’ defence.
His addition is already being welcomed. The team manager Ron Roenicke endorsed it. "I think he's going to be a big addition to our bullpen," Milwaukee manager Ron Roenicke said. "When he's down in the zone, he's going to be really good."
The Milwaukee Brewers on Monday observed how the pitcher rendered the Texas Rangers’ hitters unable to secure an edge in the game after they had a 4-3 lead. Veras’ spell proved a tough challenge for the Rangers as they could not make gains during his spell.
The hard-throwing pitcher appeared in 79 games the past season, having had a 3.80 ERA. He had a total of 2 wins to his credit, saving a game in the 71 innings that he pitched, giving 32 runs and 6 homers.
The right handed pitcher, in the team manager’s view, will be a perfect match against the right-handed batters. "For right-handed batters, it starts right at them and they freeze," Roenicke said.
Jose Veras has lately shown a considerable progress as far as the efficacy of his pitching is concerned. With a number of other options available to the Brewers, the very utilization of this pitcher testifies he holds the capacity to go down against the
hitters with more effectuality.
The fact that John Axford and Francisco Rodriguez are available in eighth and ninth further strengthens the team’s defence. However, certain needs are recognized well.
"We know what we have in the eighth and ninth," Roenicke said. "But you still have to get to the eighth and ninth. To have Veras there and Kameron [Loe] there when we need him, it's really important."
The Milwaukee Brewers, among other things, have to defend the National League title they won in 2011. Although they could not eventually make it to the World Series, their performance remained outstanding; something they would definitely want to repeat this
year.
