Josef Craig seizes Men’s 400m freestyle gold – 2012 Paralympic Games
Josef Craig of Great Britain seized gold medal of the Men’s 400m freestyle in S7 category on day eight of the swimming events at the 2012 London Paralympic Games in Aquatics Centre on Thursday, September 6.
The British swimmer spoiled the party of his fellow swimmers and grabbed gold medal of the discipline. With his quickest response to the start and utter determination, Craig gained a comfortable lead over his opponents in the beginning and paved his way
to the medal rostrum for gold medal.
His scintillating effort remained in a lead of four body lengths over his closest challenger as he touched the wall with a timing of 4 minutes and 42.81 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Shiyun Pan of China, who stayed nearly 3.40 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and captured silver medal of the event by producing a time of 4 minutes and 46.22 seconds.
Pan was chased by Andrey Gladkov of Russia, who stayed 0.54 seconds slower from his former finisher and emerged on the finishing blockade as third position holder by clocking a time of 4 minutes and 46.76 seconds.
Similarly, Gladkov was followed by Jonathan Fox of Great Britain, who stayed one and a half body length away from overpowering his former finisher and tapped the wall with an effort of 4 minutes and 48.03 seconds for fourth position.
Fifth best spot of the race was obtained by Mihovil Spanja of Croatia, who stayed nearly four seconds behind and hit the wall with a timing of 4 minutes and 52.22 seconds.
Spanja was followed by Lantz Lamback of USA, who stayed 4.65 seconds apart and ended sixth in the race with the timing of 4 minutes and 56.87 seconds.
Lamback was chased by Matthew Levy of Australia, who remained more than a body length away and finished seventh with an effort of 4 minutes and 58.12 seconds.
Levy was trailed by Marian Kvasnytsia of Ukraine, who ended his swim in eighth best place with a timing of 5 minutes and 04.92 seconds.
In addition, Craig received a huge round of applause from the crowd after his victory.
