How did he build the cellar without anyone knowing?

How did he keep his wife away from the cellar, because surely she was curious and would want to see why he was always down the cellar?

dont you think that a man who could rape and imprison his own daughter, might possibly be a violent bully towards his wife, who probably didnt even dare talk, let alone wonder what he was up to.

Years of planning, and getting the children to do the work, and at night, the wife completely ignorant, it could happen i guess, but leaving three children on the doorstep, that takes some believing. I watched the programme last night and what came across was how normal this madman seemed to almost everyone. Controlling, bully, and headcase, but he got away with it. Now its come to light the rape of another where he went to jail and other crimes he has committed, a very ugly story. Pity for Elizabeth and her poor children. According to a news report she is going to sue for his fortune, i hope she does. And he hangs himself, do everyone a favour.

This is what i have picked up from the news: people did know he was building the cellar just not for what purpose - after all there's nothing unusual about making alterations to your house if you give a plausible reason.

Apparently he totally dominated his wife so even if she was curious she was too afraid of him to ask questions - he told her not to go near the cellar so she didn't - it was made from sound-proof steel and concrete and he had an elaborate locking system.

He always had good reasons for everything he did - absolutely everybody was duped - he must be quite a cool customer to have kept up such a collosal lie for so many years.

This man is downright evil, and I have just watched on TV. plus his wife, who on the programme did not looked very frightened to me. She looked very serene, and did not seem to have a care in the world. So to say she did not know .. that is hard to believe. ! NO... there is more to this story , and it will all come out in the end. The only one who deserves any sympathy  is Elisabeth, and no one knows what evil he put her through.... He wants stringing up... and I would gladly do the job as well.

His wife knew what he was up to,but like anyone in an abusive marriage - self preservation reigns.We are just not privy to the terror his wife must have endured over the years.And frankly there is nothing strange about someone building a cellar.I am not condoning what this beast did,just stating a fact.

he was a mean man nobody questrioned and the unexplaned time he spent aeway from his real life was apppreciated
