Barcelona vice-president, Josep Bartomeu, has refuted all speculation regarding a possible link between the Catalan club and Robin van Persie.
Bartomeu has stated that the Arsenal hit-man is not a target for the current Spanish Champions.
Previously, there were a number of reports that suggested that the talismanic forward could be on his way to Nou Camp.
The in-form forward has been deemed responsible for inspiring Arsenal to several victories, many of which came against tough opponents and in difficult situations.
Van Persie’s brilliant performances sparked interest from a number of clubs across Europe. Spanish Giants, Real Madrid and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604; and deep-pocketed Manchester City, were all believed to be associated with the transfer of the Dutch international.
Speculations escalated when rumours about Van Persie having difficulty making a decision about the renewal of his contract with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 became viral. It was reported that the forward was finding it hard to reach a verdict about his future. Hence, the signing
of a new contract with the London club was delayed.
Apparently, the 28-year-old was not satisfied with the wages that the Gunners offered him. Although the news was immensely exaggerated by the English media, those faithful to the London club actually showed concern and urged Arsene Wenger to convince the
forward to stay.
The Dutch forward’s current contract with the North London club binds him to the Emirates until the summer of 2013. Interestingly, there is little certainty about the forward’s future despite efforts made by the club to contain him.
Current UEFA Champions League title holders, Barcelona, were known to be the favourites to acquire the services of the Arsenal skipper.
However, their vice-president has taken out time to speak against such speculations.
While talking to Sport, Bartomeu stated:
"There is nothing going on at the moment. There are some rumours, but this is not the right time to talk about Van Persie. We have to focus on our performances on the pitch,
