With the Ballon d’Or awards approaching in January, the Catalan giants are totally under the radar. The Spanish Champions are considered one of the best teams in the world and they simply proved it as the last three contenders of the “FIFA Ballon d’Or” are
all from the same team.
Andres Iniesta, Xavi Hernandez and Lionel Messi are the three players who are going to be competing against each other for the award and no matter who wins, the award is coming to Barcelona. With the Spanish Giants winning the award for sure, their coach
is also running for the title “best coach of the year.”
Josep “Pep” Guardiola was selected by FIFA and France Football as a candidate for the 2010 Manager of the Year award alongside the Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho and the Spanish national team’s boss Vicente Del Bosque.
Spanish football came into the eyes of the whole world, as the last three candidates of Ballon d’Or award are all playing in the Spanish La Liga and the three managers who were short listed are also currently a part of “Spanish football.”
After 2009, when Guardiola helped Barcelona win 6 trophies in a single season to make history, the Spaniard made sure the team does not lose the same ambition of winning. The very next year, the former Barcelona player and the current boss of the same team,
Guardiola showed the world that the first-year 6-trophy haul wasn’t “beginner’s luck” as he took his side forward to win 4 more trophies.
He also managed to reach the semi-final stage of the UEFA Champions League where he suffered a loss from Inter Milan who were being coached by Jose Mourinho. He also helped his side win the Spanish Super Cup and even won the Spanish La Liga with a stunning
99 points. With Guardiola winning 4 more titles, he managed to take 8 out of 10 titles that were available to his side.
FIFA and France Football have introduced the manager of the year award for the first time but Guardiola has already won many awards while being in charge of Barcelona.
Since he started his career from the summer of 2008, the Spaniard won the Miguel Munoz award which is given to the best Spanish manager. He won the award in not only 2009 but also 2010 and later became the Premi Don Balon 2009 and Onze d’Or 2009. He was
also voted as the best manager of 2009 by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics.
In case Josep Guardiola wins the first ever Manager of the Year award, he is definitely going to get the well-deserved recognition however, Jose Mourinho has accomplished far more than Guardiola during the year 2010 as he helped Inter Milan win a treble
after 45 years. Moreover, Vicente Del Bosque is in a league of his own as he helped the Spaniards win their first ever FIFA World Cup 2010.
