Josep Guardiola close to sign a new deal with Barcelona
Back in 2008, the Spanish Giants Barcelona were expecting a downfall. However, their president did not really let that happen and he decided to sack his manager Frank Rijkaard by bringing on the former Barcelona midfielder Josep
Guardiola. Frank Rijkaard built a great team and helped the Spanish giants win the UEFA Champions League back in 2006, as they were able to defeat the English side Arsenal, who were having a great time while playing under Thierry Henry.
Even though Rijkaard helped the La Blaugrana win some titles, but towards 2008, his golden era was coming to an end and it was for sure that he was going to be sacked. Soon, the Catalan midfielder Josep Guardiola became the head
of the Catalan side and started playing very different football. No matter how great a tactician Josep Guardiola was, he was always criticized for being the coach of an “already-built” team.
Despite great criticism, he took advantage of a team built by the former manager; he took his men forward and won six trophies in the same season. He won the UEFA Champions League, the Spanish La Liga and the Copa Del Rey, which
helped Barcelona win the first ever treble in the history of Spanish football. Moreover, Barcelona went ahead and also won the FIFA Club World Cup for the first time in their history and after winning six titles they became the first team ever to win six trophies
in the same season.
With such a great record, Josep Guardiola managed to keep the job and also came under the radar of many Premier League clubs like Manchester United – who are now looking for a replacement for their ageing manager Alex Ferguson
– and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786, who are now suffering in the English Premier League after their assistant manager Ray Wilkins was kicked off.
This season Josep Guardiola has shown that he is building a team of his own. After letting go of Samuel Eto’o, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Zlatan-Ibrahimovic-c38029 and Yaya Toure, Josep Guardiola is trying to build a team of his style. With all players
playing extraordinary football, Josep Guardiola has shown that he is nothing less than the other great managers. His great tactics worked against Jose Mourinho’s Real Madrid and he is currently one of the only few managers who have not witnessed the wrath
of the Los Blancos. However, the Los Blancos did witness the wrath of La Blaugrana as Josep Guardiola helped his team win the El Clasico 5-0 at the Nou Camp.
With other teams trying to claim such an extraordinary coach and with Josep Guardiola also stating the fact that he himself wants to make a move to the Premier League, there is no doubt that Barcelona are currently feeling insecure
with their Gaffer.
Earlier, in July, Barcelona President Sandro Rosell gave Josep Guardiola a new deal and made him sign a contract extension for one year. However, now, the reports state that Barcelona might take the winter break as an opportunity
to get closer to the coach and give him another contract extension. The question is whether Josep Guardiola is going to put pen to paper or not. Currently, he looks happy with the way his team is performing. They are currently at the top of the table and they
have a good draw in the UEFA Champions League. For now, all that is known is that Josep Guardiola is going to stay in Barcelona until the end of this season.
