Joseph Agbeko confident against Abner Mares, wants Nonito Donaire afterwards – Boxing news
The current International Boxing Federation’s Bantamweight world champion, Joseph Agbeko, is confident of seeing off the World Boxing Council’s Silver 118-pound champion, Abner Mares, as he thinks he has more experience than the Mexican.
The King Kong, Agbeko, also revealed he wants to be the unified champion of the division and for that he will challenge the Filipino Flash, Nonito Donaire, who is a three-division world champion and currently holds the World Boxing Council’s and World Boxing
Organisation’s Bantamweight world championship belts.
While speaking on his inclusion, he said, “Donaire has the WBC and WBO titles so definitely I really want him. I want to get all the crowns at bantamweight. I want to be unified champion at bantamweight so I really want to fight Donaire after this fight.
We’ll work it out.”
Joseph Agbeko, who will defend his IBF title against the 25-year-old Abner Mares on Saturday, August 13, 2011 in the finals of the Bantamweight Tournament at the Joint at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, thinks his experience is going to a
big plus for him.
Agbeko, who has won 28 of his 30 professional fights, with 22 of his wins coming by the way of a knockout, told the media he has more experience than Mares and he will take full advantage of it.
Agbeko said, “The advantage is going to be I’m the smartest and most experienced and I’m very tough. I think that will be the advantage.”
Since this Bantamweight Tournament was open to all the fighters, Agbeko is very happy upon reaching the finals of the tournament, as he knows he will be called as the best bantamweight fighter in the world, provided he wins.
Agbeko remarked, “Winning this fight makes you the best bantamweight in the world. I’m so happy I’m in the Finals and I’m working so hard to achieve my dream as the best bantamweight in the world.”
Mares’ is an undefeated Mexican prospect, who has won 21 of his 22 fights (1 Draw) including 13 by the way of a knockout. However let’s see if Agbeko can really beat him.
