Joseph Benavidez seals his place in flyweight final by knocking out Yasuhiro Urushitani – UFC news
Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC),witnessed the world number three bantamweight Joseph Benavidez knocking the senses out of his Saturday night opponent Yasuhiro Urushitani, in the 11th second of the second round on UFC on FX2.
The two men co-headlined UFC’s second FX TV pay-per-view and fought to determine as to who will go in the final of the flyweight championship. The special edition was televised on March 3, 2012 and conducted the semi finals of the flyweight champion ship.
UFC is introducing the flyweight division for the very first time and had been conducting the preliminary selection rounds on various forums. In addition to the Joseph-Yasuhiro semi final bout, the second number one contender brawl was fought between Ian
McCall and Demetrious Johnson.
McCall-Johnson engagement ended in a majority draw and because of certain technicalities the fourth round sudden death became inapplicable. From the very beginning of the bout Joseph was considered as a heavy favourite. The American 27-year-old was cutting
down the division from bantamweight to flyweight.
Joseph has been in a total 17 bouts and came out victorious in 15. He has collected three of his wins by knockout, eight by submission, and four by decision. Widely known as a submission specialist, the 135-pounder was on a 3-bout win streak.
Yasuhiro, 35, was seriously outweighed by Joseph. The 123lb Japanese sensation is considered as the world’s number one flyweight. Yasuhiro clearly overshadowed Joseph by his experience. The former Shooto bantamweight champion has been in a total 29 bouts.
He has won 19 of his total brawls, four by knockout, and 14 by decision.
Urushitani has never collected a submission win and his fight against Joseph was his UFC debut bout. Both men entered the octagon and from the very first round, Joseph rattled and rocked Yasuhiro’s world every now and then by powerful jabs.
In the whole first round, Yasuhiro did nothing huge and kept on blocking the huge punches and kicks of Joseph. In the second round after the passage of just 11 seconds, Joseph while countering Urushitani’s well placed punch unleashed a raw-powered kick which
connected Yasuhiro’s face and faded his senses away.
Benavidez after the authoritative total knockout win commented, “I felt I’d bring power to this division. I think that's just a sign of things to come in the flyweight division. This is amazing. It's a dream come true. I have an amazing opponent on the other
side (of the tournament). Those guys put on an amazing show, and I'm happy to fight the winner.”
Joseph’s knockout collected the ‘knockout of the night honour’ and with this rattling win the American now has 16 wins in his account. On the other hand, Yasuhiro has collected his career’s fifth loss. The octagon was set up at Allphones Arena situated in
Sydney Australia.
