Joseph Carty claims Men’s 50m butterfly gold – EnergyAustralia SC Championships
Joseph Carty of SOPAC, NSW claimed gold medal of Men’s 50m butterfly on day four of the 2012 EnergyAustralia Short Course Championships at Challenge Stadium in Perth on Saturday, September 15.
Carty met expectations of his supporters by dominating the playoff of the 50m discipline. With his alluring efforts, Carty sustained his fastest qualification spot and made his way to the finishing wall for gold medal.
The 21-year-old Carty stifled hopes of his opponents in the shortest butterfly race and appeared on the finishing end as gold medallist by submitting a time of 23.44 seconds.
The champion was followed by Ben Lindsay of West Coast, WA, who stayed 0.12 seconds slower from his former finisher and tapped the wall for silver medal by reporting an effort of 23.56 seconds.
Lindsay was chased by Christopher Wright of Southport Olympic Swimming Club, who remained 0.08 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and secured bronze medal of the event by producing a time of 23.64 seconds.
Wright was followed by Phil Butcher of Unattached, VIC, who stayed only 0.05 seconds behind and settled on the wall as fourth fastest swimmer by clocking a time of 23.69 seconds.
The 21-year-old Butcher was traced by Mitchell Patterson of Cranbrook and Nathalie Romeo of Trinity Grammar, who struggled hard to escape each other over the finishing end but completed their swims with a same time for fifth position.
They remained just an inch away from overpowering their preceding swimmer and posted an effort of 23.73 seconds for fifth best spot.
The duo was trailed by Sam McConnell of Sydney Uni, NSW, who stayed only 0.02 seconds slower from upsetting them and completed his race in seventh best place by touching the wall with a timing of 23.75 seconds.
Last position of the event was obtained by Ryan Steenkamp of West Coast, WA, who suffered a loss of 0.01 seconds from his preceding swimmer and failed to surpass any of his opponents. Steenkamp finished eighth in the event as he ended his race in a time of 23.76 seconds.
In addition, Carty was pleased with his gold claiming effort in the event.
