Joseph Cobarrubias pockets Boys 50 yard freestyle gold medal – Swimming news
Joseph Cobarrubias of Edison Tigers pocketed gold medal of Boys 50 yard freestyle on first day of the 2013 High School State Swimming Championships (CIF Central Division 2) on Wednesday, May 22.
Cobarrubias astonished the crowd with his scintillating effort in the double lap freestyle discipline. He earned his way into the final as top fastest swimmer and continued the same in playoff to meet expectations of his supporters. He remained marginally
ahead of his following swimmer and grabbed the title.
With his impeccable pace, Cobarrubias crushed hopes of his challengers and sprinted his way towards the finishing wall for gold medal with an effort of 21.89 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Eric Schlick of Tulare Union High School, who stayed only 0.16 seconds slower from upsetting the champion and stepped on the victory stand for second position with the timing of 22.05 seconds.
Third position of the race was obtained by Hans Gilkey of Central Valley Christian-CC, who stayed just 0.18 seconds slower from his former finisher and reached the medal rostrum for bronze medal with an effort of 22.23 seconds.
Following that the crowd witnessed scintillating forms of Erik Pedersen of Tulare Union High School and Zach Peltzer of Exeter Union High School for fourth position. Both swimmers demonstrated their astonishing efforts in the shortest freestyle discipline
but failed to escape each other over the finishing end.
Despite of their relentless efforts, both swimmers touched the wall with identical efforts of 22.82 seconds for fourth position.
The duo of fourth fastest swimmers was chased by Bobby Scott of Kerman High Swimming, who was only 0.08 seconds slower and settled on the finishing wall as sixth best finisher by clocking an effort of 28.90 seconds.
Subsequently, Scott was chased by Bryce Caster of Reedley High School-CC, who was marginally slower from him over the finishing end. Caster remained only 0.05 seconds slower from Scott and tapped the wall for seventh place with an effort of 22.95 seconds.
Eighth position of the race was obtained by Christian Martinez of Ridgeview High School, who was 0.45 seconds slower from his former finisher and concluded his race in last place with a timing of 23.40 seconds.
In addition, Cobarrubias was extremely happy with his undisputed effort in the race and expressed that he would like to accomplish the same by overpowering his competitors at the higher levels of international swimming.
